" Lost Friends"

" Do not save your loving speeches for your friends till they are dead; Do not write them on their tombstone, speak them rather now instead." -Anna Cummins

When someone passes away, we often think of something we should have said. We should have told them how much they were loved and needed. We also think of things that should not have been said. We regret not being there for them when they needed us the most.

It is ironic that when a friend passes away we are there to share in their mourning. When people say live today like it will be your last, they are definitely right. I have lost many friends along the way, and I always say that I was not ready to lose them. There will always be something I needed to do or say for them, but I was not ready to miss them.

Anna Cummins, the author of this quote, is an avid bike enthusiast. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She would rather be out riding her xracycle, which is also known as a sport utility bicycle, than sitting in front of her computer indoors. Because of her great love for the enviroment she had done work for enviromental non-profit companies. Anna gains her inspiration to write from the enviroment.

Henry Ford

"When everthing seems to be going aginst you, remember that the airplane takes off aginst the wind, not with it."

Henry Ford

Mostly known as the founder of the Ford Co. Henry Ford, was the son of a farmer. Born in Greegfield, Michigan, Henry left school at 15 to work on his father's farm. At age 16 he moved to Detroit where he began an appreticeship in a machine shop. Henry later returned to the farm which he strongly disliked. After the first world war Henry made it clear how much he opposed the war. He teamed up with and supported the Women's Peace Party. Ford came up withan idea to send a boat of pacifists to Europe to negotiate ending the war; this was unsuccessful. This event struck Ford's interest in politics, he later ran for a seat in US Senate, but was narrowly defeated. Henry Ford also had an interest in charcoal, he helped his brother in-law EG Kingsford in the development of "Kingsford Charcoal."

I feel that this quote is based on a personal level. When everthing seems to be against you, there are going to be barriers that you will have to face before you suceeed. This Quote represents alot in my life because of the barriers I've had to cross to get where I am today. I'm sure that there will be many more to come. As Henry Ford said in his quote; "Remember a plane takes off aginst the wind, not with it." If everything worked with us in our lives, we wouldn't strive to succeed!

Dreams

"You see things; and you say "Why?"But

I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?"

George Bernard Shaw

When I look at the world today and see all the bad things that are happening, I say why. If I could change the world, this is how I would do it. I would write a letter to the president to tell him my ideas. I would see if we could bring peace to the world and all of us just get along. When I lay down at night, I dream of all the nice things that I could do for the world. I would make it a lovely place if I could. It seems to overwhelming to me but I still try to keep my candle lit and be one bright spot in the world. G. Bernard Shaw was born in 1856 in Dublin, passed away in 1950 at the age of 94 in Hertfordshire, England. By the early 1900's shaw awas a well-established playwright. His works included Fanny's First 1911 on which the award-winning film My Fair Lady (1956) was based.

My Fair Lady the Broadway musical could be produced only after Shaw's death. In the play Fanny undergoes dramatic changes from a lower class street peddler to a sophisticated woman of grace. I believe, like Shaw, that if we all do a little better, the world will become a better place, why not?

Life

"Life is just one damned thing after another."

Elbert Hubbard

My husband and I have been through a lot; we've been together for a really long time. In our relationship, many things have happened and we seem to always get through it. Sometimes I wonder just what or how much more we can go through. But as this quote reads, "LIfe is just one damn thing after another."

The author of this quote ended his life with the one he loved. On May 7, 1915 the boat thay were on was hit by torpedoes and sunk by the Germans. Instead of trying to escape into the sea, Elbert and his wife went into a room, shut the door behind them, and went to heaven together in the arms of each other.

I love my husband so much that, whatever life throws at us, I'll be in his arms until death do us part, through "One damned thing after another."

Cherish

"Love the ones you love with the fear that you may never see them again."

R.W. Dale

I found this quote not too long after my six month old cousin passed away from SIDS in March. Knowing that the little boy that I saw just a few days before, playing on the floor and giggling and laughing, when I made faces at him was no longer here brings more pain than anyone will ever know. We will never know what he could have became. To me it makes perfect sense. You never know when something is going to happen, so love them like there is not going to be a tomorrow.

R.I.P Tyler Matthew Stevens March 17, 2008
R.W Dale was a famous European author. That lived in London England and was most known for his passion and love for those he cared about. Dale was adopted at the age of 5 by a family that was very wealthy and encouraged him to pursue his dreams in becoming a world known author. He wrote five novels and thousands of quotes but this one was closest to his heart. He wrote it for his parents that he lost at a young age.

Dead Tired

“I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.”
By Warren Zevon
A great guy I know always says this quote. He wanted to spend as much time with me as possible instead of sleeping. His previous job had him traveling all the time and he was only home with me on the weekends. Fortunately, he no longer works this job and is home every evening. We love to travel together to see our families and it helps make up for all the lost time we had.
Warren Zevon, the author of this quote, also wanted to make every moment of his life count and not waste a minute sleeping. The singer songwriter was diagnosed with an inoperable cancer mesothelioma in 2002. Zevon was in the middle of producing his last album, The Wind, and refused any treatment because he thought it would make him so ill that he would not be able to perform or promote his album. This is when he wrote the song “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.” The first time he performed this song was on The Late Show with David Letterman on October 30, 2002.
Warren Zevon passed away at the age of 56 on September 7, 2003. His last album won two Grammys.

TOO MUCH STRESS

"Before you agree to do anything that might add even the smallest amount of stress to your life, ask yourself what is my truest intention? Give yourself time to let a yes resound with in you . When it's right, I guarantee that your entire body will feel it"
Oprah Winfrey

Agree to do too many things in short period of time can be stressful to your mind and body. Life is stressful enough abd a person does need to add any stress if it can be prevented.
Oprah life when she was young was stressful. She was abused as a child and gave birth at a young age. I also had a stressful starting at a young age. Some stressful that a person is put though in life stays with them all their life.

The Best and Most Beautiful Things in the World

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched."

Helen Keller
The most beautiful things in the world you cannot see or touch. These things must be felt with the heart meaning, love is the most beautiful thing in the world.
Helen Keller inspired and motivated many people. She was famous for her many achievements. She was blind and deaf because of a childhood illness, but the love and caring of her teacher helped her overcome many obstacles in her life even though she couldn't see or hear.
Helen did not have to see or hear to know that the love and caring from people in her life was the most important thing. She was living proof that if you have the love and support of someone who loves you, it can get you through the hard times in your life. I feel the same way.
I feel sorry for anyone who is alone and doesn't have anyone special in their life to love or to be loved by. I am so lucky to have the love of my husband who, I believe, is my soul mate, and the special love of my kids and grandkids. These are the most beautiful things to me.

Fear of Fire

"Courage is the resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear."
~Mark Twain

Mark Twain was born on Nov. 30, 1835; his birth name was Samuel Clemens. The name “Mark Twain” means that it is safe to navigate and he became Mark Twain during his days as a river pilot in 1858. As a young child Samuel was kept indoors because of poor health. By age nine he seemed to be recovered from his ailments and was able to go outside to play with the rest of the children. When Samuel was 12 his father died of pneumonia and at 13 he left school to become a printer’s apprentice. At the age of 15 he was an editorial assistant for his older bothers newspaper. Mark Twain developed a love for writing; he wrote 28 books and numerous short stories, letters and sketches. It took a lot of courage for Mark to leave school after his father passed away at age 13; He became one of America’s most famous literary icons.

I see this quote on courage almost everyday because it is hanging up in my fire department. It has been there since 1972 when the fire department was dedicated into service for the town of Monongah. People call firefighters heroes, and some are. But the majority of us have never saved anyone or brought anyone back to life. I am afraid of what I am going to face on each call, I am afraid of the dangers and the unknown but I rely on my training and the men and women around me to help keep me safe. It can be very easy to think about yourself and the dangers that lie ahead and not want to be involved and do nothing. Being a firefighter you realize that the problem is not about you, there is no need for selfish thinking. Love of neighbor and love of your community should be the motivation to serve others. There is another quote by Gregory Widen that I like, “The funny thing about firemen, is that day or night they are always firemen.” As firemen we control our fear and we do the job day or night, in hot or cold, we are always courageous firemen.

" A Witty Saying Proves Nothing"

" A Witty Saying Proves Nothing" - Franciois-Marie Arouet, better known as Voltaire, was a french writer, essayist, deist, and philosopher known for being very witty himself. He was born in the 1600's in Paris France . In 1717 his wittiness got him into trouble and landed him in jail. During that time he wrote "Oedipe" his first writing sucess and began using the pen name Voltaire.

The reason that I like this saying is that even when people are just trying to be funny by saying witty things they can hurt people's feelings. In conclusion a witty saying dosen't prove anything without the facts so sometimes maybe you should not be so witty and think about other people's feelings.

In The End

In The End

“In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”
Martin Luther King Jr.

This quote has a special meaning to me because, hateful things said from someone will soon be forgotten, but if your friends are there and say nothing to defend you or help you, how could you ever forget that?

Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the key leaders in the American civil rights movement. Following the Rosa Parks bus incident in December of 1955, local black leaders met, and formed the Montgomery Improvement Association. They decided to choose, a then unknown 26 year old Baptist Minister, by the name of Martin Luther King Jr., to be their leader.
In 1964 Dr. King became the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his hard work in leading the movement that ended segregation.

Bones of Success

Bones of Sucess

“To succeed in life you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.”-Reba McEntire

As long as you have wishes for yourself and you are willing to stick up for yourself, without losing your sense of humor, you can have a successful life.
As a mother of a child with a disability, I have found this to be true. When I had my son, I had many wishes for him. I wished he would be healthy, happy, and do well in all the pursuits in his life. My wishes changed when he was diagnosed with autism. I know now that the wishes I had for him can still come true as long as I am willing to fight for what he is entitled to. I am doing this on a constant basis. I am using my backbone to fight for him to keep his Title XIX Waiver from the state. I do this with using my funnybone also. My little boy always finds a way to make me laugh and not get stressed or too serious. I also laugh at people who think they know more than I do about what is best for my son.
Reba McEntire has used her made her life successful by accomplishing her wish of becoming a singer. She used her backbone when she performed on an awards show shortly after a plane crash killed several band members. Her funny bone has made a lot of people laugh with her while they watch her sitcom "Reba".

Mother Teresa

"Trust"
"I know God won't give me more than I can handle. I just wish he didn't trust me so much."
-Mother Teresa

Born August 26th, 1910 in Macedonia, Mother Teresa knew at the age of twelve what her calling in life was to be. She left her parent's house at the age of eighteen and joined the Sister of Loreto, an Irish community of nuns. After seeing all of the poverty outside of the convent walls, she left to join the poor in Calcutta. Mother Teresa was known worldwide for her missionary work. She won several awards and helped millions of people. She died on September 5th, 1997.

Mother Teresa, like everyone, had to deal with things that she thought that she could not handle. That is why I chose this particular quote. I am not an overly religious person, but I do have my beliefs. I know that God will not give a person more than he or she can handle.

World of Darkness

"Maybe this world is another planet's Hell."
Aldous Huxley (1894-1963)

In my opinion, I feel that Aldous Huxley’s words represent what our degrading and corrupted world has slowly become. At age 16, Huxley suffered an attack known as keratitis punctata which caused him to become blind for 18 months. He used special glasses, along with an adequately recovered eye, to read and learn Braille. Due to his vision difficulties, he was unable to pursue his long dreamed career as a scientist. Consequently he turned to writing and became a novelist and critic.
In my opinion, Huxley realized that in today’s world you can be shot for walking into the wrong neighborhood or simply saying the wrong words. For instance, when I was in Cleveland Ohio, I wore a red bandana in my hair and was stopped by my friend before I walked out the door. He told me I would be jumped for wearing the wrong colors in the wrong neighborhood. Huxley’s quote really makes you think, are we already living in hell?

Forgotten

"An injury is much sooner forgotten than an insult."

-Lord Chesterfield

Lord Chesterfield was never married and he was succeeded by his third cousin, the eighth Earl, after his death in 1883. He was the grandson of Rear-Admiral John Stanhope. Lord Chesterfield wrote many letters to his son which containted shrewd advice such as the quote above.

I like this quote and find it to be very true. When someone gets injured, the injury will heal in time, but an insult can hurt much deeper and last longer than an injury. There has been a family member of mine who has deeply hurt me. This member of my family is the reason I look at people differenly today. This person hurt me when I was younger emotionally. They never hurt me physically just emotionally. After I have grown up a little bit, I am finally starting to realize how emotionally this person hurt me. When I was younger I didn't understand everything, but now I am beginning to understand.

A broken bone heals in time, but an insult can hurt for a life time.

Living My Dream

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau was a complex man of many different talents. Who worked hard to shape his life.He was an American essayist, poet, and practical philosopher, renowned for having lived the doctrines of Transcendentalism as recorded in his masterwork "Walden" (1854). I have worked hard to accomplish my goals in life. Futhering my education was one goal I set early in my life and i am currently working towards completing that goal. This quote continues to inspire me everyday by leading me in the path of my dreams. The career i have envisioned is becoming a medical assistance.

Blind Faith

"The gods can either take away evil from the world and will not, or being willing to do so cannot; or they neither can nor will, or lastly, they are both able and willing. If they have the will to remove evil and cannot, then they are not omnipotent. If they can, but will not, then they are not benevolent. If they are neither able nor willing, then they are neither omnipotent nor benevolent. Lastly, if they are both willing and able to annihilate evil, how does it exist?"
-Epicurus, 300 B.C.
For so many people of religious faith their religion becomes an absolute certainty; that their belief system, their bible, their way of thinking, their gods, their church is THE right one and yet they rarely question their teachings, or what their religion stands for, it's origins, the contradictions or sometimes lack of logic. For example Epicurus's philosophy was "aponia" which translates to the absence of pain and fear, and living a self-sufficient life surrounded by friends. It sounds a lot like atheism and a life lived in the moment but empty and without any purpose. Granted for me this also sounds like my religion's concept of heaven but that is just my perspective.
What I find so blackly amusing is that people are so rigid in their thinking when it comes to religion and I'm sure this comes from the extreme lack of factual evidence of any faith being more correct than any other. I find many faults with my own religion stemming from their origins, the bible, and my perception of the logical construction of my religion. Epicurus believed that good and bad were determined by pleasure or pain and that death meant the death of the body and soul, and that gods did not reward or punish but we were all subjected to the forces interacting with each other in our universe. So if a serial killer finds pleasure in killing does that mean he is good? I think this would qualify as a flaw in Epicurus's philosphyHowever, I do not wish to change any one's mind; for another nice quote is:

"Even if they change my mind; they won't change my mind."
What I want is for people
to question what they believe and accept other faiths without prejudice.

Love Is Life

"Love is life. And if you miss love you miss life."
Leo Buscaglia

We live in a world where everyone is out for themselves. Nobody wants to help you or lend a hand anymore. If people would care about others, we would have a better world to live in. Life is about helping others in their time of need. I have had family, friend, and significant others turn their back on me and it hurts deeply. I'm still a caring person and will help others if I possibly can. Lend a hand to others, but don't go bankrupt in the process. It can be as simple as a shoulder to lean on, someone to talk to, or letting someone merge when driving down the road. It is the little things that matter most in life.

Leo Buscaglia helped others out in their time of need. He helped a Chinese refugee out while traveling in Hong Kong. Leo paid his tuition to an English language school. The Chinese guy was able to get his family out of the refugee camp. When he was able to pay Dr. Buscaglia the money back, the Dr. told him to help out another determined person with love.

Dr. Leo was an example of true love. He helped a whole family, gave them life, and didn't want a penny back in exhange. I cannot think of very many people like that today. Everyone wants the money back or something back in exchange. Without love, many people don't have a live, they just exist.

Simple Man

SIMPLE MAN

"My Mama always said, 'Life was like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get.'" Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a fictional person who was a very simple man but he has good intentions. Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam and made friends, he also won medals, started a tennis craze, and creates a famous shrimp boat.

I like this quote because it’s true you don’t know what you will get out of life. To me it makes a lot of since because when I was a kid I would always poke a hole in the bottom of the chocolates to see what flavor they were. Too bad life weren’t like that it would be great if we could poke a hole in things to see how everything in our life would turn out.

Success

"The only thing that ever sat its way to success was a hen."

-Sarah Brown

Sarah began playing her best known role,
Carly Corinthos on the American ABC soap opera, General Hospital. Brown played Cary from April 1996 through April 2001, and won three Daytime Emmy Awards for her work.

This quotes means that you can’t just sit around in life because you will get nowhere. You have to try hard at things and don’t give up. I think if Sarah didn’t start acting at the young age of 17 she may not be where She is today. She had to work hard at the career she developed. By working hard I have accomplished graduating high school and continuing my education.

Life Happens

"Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans."
-John Lennon

This quote describes me perfectly. I have always had all kinds of big goals and dreams for myself, but those are not what have made me the happiest in life. While I was traveling down different roads for those destinations, the little speed bumps I hit and wrong turns I made are what I think of and make me smile.

John Lennon, the author of this quote, was a member of The Beatles. Not only was he a rock musician, singer, and songwriter, he was also an artist, a peace activist, and a father. He had two sons from two different marriages, Julian and Sean. After a great stretch with The Beatles he retired to spend more time with his family. After five years of quiet, he made a comeback into music, but was sadly murdered a month later on December 8, 1980. This quote makes me think that he missed out on a lot of “family time” due to his extremely busy and successful career.

Like John Lennon, the things that make me truly happy are not the big achievements I gained, but all of the memories I have made. The best example is my daughter, and my son who will be born this summer.

Prayer of a Saint.

And shepherds we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee, power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command. We shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

In nomme Patris, et Filu, et Spiritus Sancti ( In The Name of the Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost)

-Boondock Saints 1999

The Boondock Saints is a 1999 action crime drama film written and directed by Troy Duffy. The film stars Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus as fraternal twins Connor and Murphy McManus, who become vigilantes after killing two members of the Russian mob in self-defense. After a message from God, the brothers, together with their friend David Della Rocco, set out to rid their home city of Boston of evil, all the while being pursued by FBI agent Paul Smecker (Willem Dafoe).

This Quote, Says alot for a individual. I have had alot of close friends killed, and within their rghts, the individual(s) who have committed the crime recieved less of a suitable punishment.
Each Individual has the right to choose thier own fate depending on thier manner. Being able to choice the fate of another is decided by the situation that person has placed themselves in, such as a murder, Eye for an Eye. Theives in middle east have thier hand removed as a sign of judgement. My Theory, as a human is that we have the rights to protect our ethical, moral values and those that are around us. VIGILANTISIM 4 LIFE!
